My genealogy

Level of ambition

The goal of my genealogy was only to get a rough picture of my forefathers. Their occupations! Their living circumstances!

Method

I started with myself and went back as far possible. I thus sought out the following information about my ancestors:
However, as a rule I did not seek information about at what age my ancestors died or what happened to the children other than the ones in my direct lineage.
I have also limited my research to the most common church archives, i.e. catechism records, parish registers, migration registers, birth records and records of baptism. There are several other church archives that could be of interest in certain cases. Nor have I looked into records of census and records used in the collection of different kinds of taxes. My research is in other words not that comprehensive.

But the research has so far shown that my entire family on my mothers side originates from the county of Malmöhus in Skåne. My maternal grandfather and his forefathers all come from a very defined area, consisting principally of three neighboring parishes, namely Genarp, Lyngby and Göddelöv. My maternal grandmother and her ancestors originate mainly from the part of Skåne called "south of the country road".

On my fathers side, I have now come to know that his forefathers originate from the counties of Skåne, Östergötland, Södermanland and Västmanland. The connection to Skåne is relatively recent and dates back to the eighteen nineties.

Presentation

I have presented everything that I thought was of interest for each ancestor. I have gathered this material in a booklet. Down below follows a couple of examples of how I have presented my ancestors.

"My maternal grandmother's maternal grandmother's
father and mother

He was, as was my maternal grandmother's maternal grandfather's father, a farmer and his name was Jöns Jönsson. He was born on the 5th of September in 1776 in the parish of Anderslöv in the county of Malmöhus. His wife was called Kjersti Jacobsdotter and she was born in the parish of Gislöf on the 3rd of February in 1777.
At the christening of Jöns, one of the godfathers was a man called Magnus Karlsson. I have not been able to read the other names. It is clear however that the congregation said a prayer for Jöns. Also regarding Kjersi there is information about the christening. She was held during the cermony by a woman called Karina. This name was unusual at this time but it occurs at several christenings indicating that she resided in the vicarage. Godmothers and godfathers respectively were Agnes Jeppsdotter and Per Nilsson, both from Gislöf nr 22, and Hanna Jonsdotter from Gislöv nr 25 and Ove Jönsson. There were several additional names that I have not been able to read. Jöns and Kjersti had four children, namely
*Sissa, born on the 4th of May in 1804,
*Jöns, born on the 6th of April in 1808,
*Anna, born on the 9th of October in 1810 and
*Hans, born on the 28th of August in 1816.

The family lived during the years of 1817 and 1821 in Gislöf nr 17. Prior to this they had been living both in the parish of Fru Ahlstads and that of Grönby. In the Catechism records there is a maid registered in connection with the family."

"My paternal grandfather's maternal grandmother's
paternal grandfather and grandmother

He was called Lars Andersson and was born on the 23rd of November in 1763. He came from Sahlsta in the parish of Öja in the county of Södermanland. He married Anna Ohlsdotter from Råby nr 26 or possibly nr 926 in the same parish. She was born on the 21st of November in 1764.

At the time of the birth of the first child Anna was 23 years old. According to the Birth records they had six children, all born on Sahlsta:
*Anders, born on the 12th of February in 1788,
*Anna, born on the 19th of August in 1789,
*Stina, born on the 9th of June in 1792,
*Axel, born on the 6th of August in 1795, died in February in 1796,
*Lars, born on the 25th of April in 1797, died on the 25th of April in 1798 and
*Olof, born on the 24th of January in 1799.

In the eighteenth century apparently Sahlsta was a rather large estate. This can be concluded from the Catechism records where seven farmhands and five maids are mentioned in connection with the family. There is also a notation that the widow Anna Larsdotter, i.e. Lars Andersson's mother, is living on the estate."
